Dmitry Bulgakov is the founder of Hiiumaa Homecoming festival as well as renowned Homecoming Festival in Moscow, Russia, which was closed in February 2022.
Dmitry was born in Moscow in 1978 and completed his education in Russia and Germany, under tutelage of renowned professors Ivan Poushecnikov in Gnessin School of Music and Gernot Schmalfus in Detmold Hochschule. He participated in many international chamber music festivals including Elba, Graz, Oldenburgh chamber music festival and many others. His orchestra collaborations brought him to three continents, performing in many countries in Europe, Mexico and Japan under the direction of Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Lev Markiz, Vladimir Ziva and Yuri Bashmet amongst others.
Mr. Bulgakov is a recipient of numerous recognitions for his recording projects, which included recordings of music by J.S.Bach and Alfred Schnittke for Quartz label (2010) in collaboration with the flutist Maria Alikhanova, as well as the release of Bach’s Goldberg variations transcription, made specifically for Homecoming Woodwind ensemble by renowned russian composer Andrei Eshpai. Dmitry Bulgakov is a prizewinner of several international and national competitions, including Lauschmann competition in Köln, Germany, TWIYCA in United Kingdom, All-Russian competition in Saint-Petersburg. In addition he was a recipient of prestigious DAAD and GWK achievement awards in Germany.
Dmitry was on the faculty of Gnessin School of Music and Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Since 2016 Dmitry holds a position of a professor of oboe in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater.
